Life was just dragging on. I was racing against time to complete deadlines and cover one milestone after another. The hectic & energy sapping corporate life was driving me crazy. I was so busy fulfilling the dreams of others and working for clients that I forgot that I too had a life, family and friends. I had never imagined that I would get so engrossed in work that I would forget about the kind of life I had lived earlier.
Deepak , Sharmaji, Nanpara , Guptaji were one of my closest friends since college days with whom I had spent one of the best days of my life . Life just flew for 4 years in college with them. Laughing , teasing , cracking jokes , night out, fighting , pulling legs , studying together etc. had brought us closer to each other. Then one day when college was over did we realize we are departing. Though I met Deepak & Sharmaji earlier but it was around 8 years since I had met Nanpara & Guptaji ( YO).
Deepak & Sharmaji often called me over the weekend to meet but the office work didnt give me enough time to step out and meet them who are in same city as I am.
It was Sharmajis marriage in Aligarh. I had made up my mind that whatever happens I am going to attend this function. Little did I had a sense that my life was about to change altogether.
My wife was little sceptical to go, thinking we might not be able to enjoy with herself being around. But we all had decided that we would be coming with our wives and kids. Our families need to meet to come close to each other and develop a bond which we have between us.
Though it was a challenge for my wife to get leave but somehow things worked out. As I drove to Aligarh with Bhawna ( my wife) , the sweet memories of hostel life was bubbling in my mind and I was continuously speaking about them to Bhawna.
The moment I reached venue we all jumped with joy and hugged each other. We forgot that we have come for a marriage function. It was a get together which we all were longing for such a long time. We had so much to share that we started talking, laughing, calling names, recalling the moments & events we had during college life which had split us into laughter. Things which had irritated some of us was fun to discuss now. Not only we mingled and went into other world, our wives & kids became close friends. We ate and danced to our heart tunes. Though we were together with our spouses, we also took out some time when only we guys were alone and discussed those moments which were too private for us. As we talked for 2 hours in a closed car, we never felt that we had not met each other in last 8 years. I felt like it was just yesterday , when I would enter my hostel room in the evening after classes and all of us would sit together to enjoy the evening tea with bread omletee. We could read each others heart and mind. There was so much of love between us.
We knew Nanpara and Yo had to catch train early morning and it had been too tiring for them till the time we met. But after we met we had a new surge of energy and refreshment. We continued to chat the entire night till morning. It was a new lease of life and energy for all of us.
Though we departed in the morning but there was a smile on everyones face. The marriage cum get together was memorable for us. It gave us the strength and motivation that we needed to go on with optimism, and look up. I had met my closest friends and our spouses had made new ones.
