What is the flavor of the season ?? any guesses…….OK Then read ahead
Now days whenever I call up or speak with my colleagues and friends, I get 2 common replies
“Dude ..I am in a hurry …I will call you later, currently going for a Job interview”
“Sorry yaar, nowdays I am too busy , I am going to see a girl for marriage”
Same situation is in office too, almost every day I will be getting a mail with the subject heading
“My last day in XXXX“, with the same thanking note copied from similar mails sent few days back;
And in each week I am being handed at least 1-2 marriage invitations.
If I happen to login in to social networking sites like Orkut and Facebook I see the updates from friends as committed , married or bbye ABC company and the profile of people flooded with marriage pics 🙂 ….whooossshhhh…
I wonder all of a sudden what has happened to everybody ?? …or is it me only thinking in an absurd manner. I just did some deep thinking , utilized some of the grey cells 🙂 who are in endangered species list ….and came up with some assumptions .I don’t know how many will agree with me , but this is my take on this social trend which has engulfed most of the youth nowadays.
Ever since first signs of recession started clouding us in 2007, people saw the worst. Mass layoffs in companies, salaries slashed, no placements, no perks, banks going bust, cost cutting, employee exploitation in the name of value addition ; all in all an insecure future for all Tom, Dick and Harry. The country’s “most eligible bachelors” were undergoing a very challenging phase. Their growth was hampered, and each one of us were thinking that their careers have been pushed back by a couple of years.
Well to sum it up, I would say they were actually “FRUSTRATED“; Frustrated from their work, their salary, their company and ultimately their lives. So in order to ease out their frustrations they have joined a rat race now for searching jobs and going for marriage.
As the clouds of economic recession have started to clear, and silver lining appears for economic revival; the so called youth of country is hopping here and there as if hundreds of chickens are set free from a coop :).
My inquisitiveness did not end here,I asked the same question to many people and got very strange replies but would like to mention few of them which I felt were most crazy
“Yaar life main kuch aur bacha nahi karne ko , to socha shaadi hi kar lete hain”
“Wrote CAT and other entrance exams but failed, job sucks, no happiness left so I thought why not to marry, may be something good may happen to me”
“Yaar shaadi karni hai dats why I am looking for new job and better pay , how am I going to support a family in current salary ?”
You may not fully agree with me, but insiders say that attrition especially in IT companies (since India is recognized by this) is an all time high upto 33% ( sorry, I don’t have any figures for marriage J )
Companies are trying desperately to stop this mad attrition by offering pay hikes and retention bonuses unlike couple of months back when even retaining a job was a big perk.
At the same time the male adrenalin seems to be at an all time high , first for running after job then after a girl.
Revival of economy has revived the Love and marriage market too. More money in pockets means more expenses on girlfriends for their gifts, chocolates, movies, soft toys, phone bills, outing etc.
At the same time more secured job, high salary packages, foreign trips etc. have increased the market value of “doolahs” (I hope you all will agree with me that dowry still exists in India but in different forms) .
I don’t know how long this trend will continue but the question still lingers in my mind “Is attrition driving the mad rush for marriage or it’s the vice versa ??”
Waiting for your valuable feedback about this dilemma.
Note: The views and ideas expressed are purely personal, any resemblance to any person is intentional and will serve the purpose of my absurd thought process.

Remember that matrimony add in which with a girl’s foto it was mentioned “Software Engineers please excuse”…Maybe since recession is over that girl and parents would now change their mind…

Cant comment on the marriage and attrition relation but cannot deny that there seems like a relation between two

exactly! i feel the same dear, after completing my colleges whenever i met any1 & esp. boys( don’t mind), ” yaar jaldi se job mil jaye warna mujhse ki ladki shadi nahi karegi”:)

Point Taken 🙂
But in this male chauvinist society, there do exist people (like me) jinko agar biwi khilaaye pilaaye to hum bura nahi manenge ;).
So if there are any takers, me and Sunny are up for grabs i guess 😀

I am happy that ur female ego got a boost 🙂
but at the same time ur very statement “waise it’s worth thinking that just non-MBA engineers se koi shaadi,as in arrange marriage, karta hai???????? :p”
made myslef feel good for nothing and for one moment i felt like jumping out of window ..lol…
are itne bhi bure nahin hai engineers dat if we don’t hold MBA degrees no girl will marry us… though during recession like every other brand our demand was less but now we are back in demand again…. 🙂
