Life is such a bitch; it often brings a person at crossroads where he runs out with options. He is being forced to take certain decisions which he had never imagined, still worse, in a manner he never thought about.
It was similar situation for Ansh. With a heavy heart and frustration written all over his face he had finally given up.
It was all rosy when it started 7 years back. There were dreams in his eyes and hope in his heart. An urge that one day he would make a difference and scale new heights in his professional career.
He belonged to an Ivy League college and was one of the brightest students in his batch. This made him envy of many and pride for his near & dear ones.
He started off his career in style, impressing the clients and senior management alike. There were accolades all around.
The most terrible projects which were in red were handed over to him and despite all odds he made sure that impossible was achieved before deadlines. He became beacon of success and achievements.
Someone has rightly said that success has many fathers but it also makes many enemies. With success comes envy and that too from colleagues who are jealous of your growth. He was no exception. After all he was a force to reckon with.
Sometimes fate shows ugly twists & turns and you are forced to work in an ecosystem where everything is against you.
Where your efforts are never appreciated, the pains you take to keep a boat afloat which has so many holes, where you are always taken for granted, where your best ideas are either stolen by others or never allowed to showcase its worth.
Where you see your peers and subordinates rising ahead of you in corporate ladder not on the basis of ability but being bum lickers; unlike Ansh who always believed that your work speaks for you.
This is a time in a person’s life when he starts feeling suffocated. He feels humiliated; in fact he is made to feel humiliated by those who deserve a kick on their backs.
This is time when a person starts questioning if he really has his self-respect intact. He goes into a vicious cycle of thinking, analysing, and questioning his abilities.
Nothing can be more demoralizing for a person than doubting his own capability, even ignoring your glorious past.
In a typical management structure where red tap-ism,politics and nepotism is bloody best, he continues to suffocate.
Not only Ansh, but his entire team was made to suffer. This was height of impartiality.
Though he raised his voice in different forums but it fell on deaf ears.
Then one day, in a public forum when he was again tried to be pulled down he couldn’t take is any more.The threshold had been reached.
He came back to his desk; there were tears in his eyes. After all it was an association of 7 long years. The feelings for your first Love and first job are same. Your heart bleeds when there is a break-off.
But this heartbreak was hard to accept and its pain was killing him. With heavy heart and shivering hands he wrote the last mail with subject line —- I QUIT 🙁 .
Whose loss was it after all?

Sometimes you don’t have any option than to quit and sometimes it is rather better to quit. Because this quit paves the way for good or may be a brilliant beginning. All that we should not quit is believing is ourselves. I look forward to seeing a happy Ansh in the coming years as a latter part of this (real) story. Real because Ansh is Ansh of many us.

@Didi
These kind of dirty politics makes organizations to loose some very worthy resources.
@Gayatri
Sad to hear that you were also a victim of such politics. Anyways life is all about learning from such experiences and moving on .. isn’t it ??
@Sudhakar
I agree with you. Most of the times this quit proves beneficial to the person who ventured out in new territory. The only one at loss is the organisation which he leaves because its very difficult to get worthy resources.
One has to keep on believing in oneself to keep us going despite all odds.

7 years in a single company is a long time. I’m working in my third company in my 5 yrs of IT career.The only reason for my resignations was my self respect was poked in some way or the other. Though its not good to pass one’s opinion, I believe , if I am better than undeserving employees in my company, sooner or later I’ll be in a better position. I believe we deserve what we get and we get what we deserve.This applies to one and all.May be HCL was not the right place for Ansh and he would do great at a Mc Kinsey or Google. A place where few can deserve to be.
Nice write up!!

Seven years in a single organization is a great achievement. If it’s a good company, then why not?
But, it’s been my experience that we learn the maximum in any company between the first and the third year. I didn’t see any point in holding on after the third year.
Once we quit and join a new company/start an own venture, the challenges are even more and they will help us develop both as a person and as a professional.

Another master piece from you Raju.
This post depicts the plight of all the people stuck in this vicious cycle where everyone wants the work done but fail to motivate and realize the expectations of the petty (pun intended) employee. And this is becoming a habit with labor being available easily in our country, they dont really seem to care whom they loose, very disheartening but an excellent write up my dear friend.

“One has to keep on believing in oneself to keep us going despite all odds” Rightly said Ravindra.This is a reality of life but one shouldn’t give up that easily.See we have two options…fight or flight and we should fight if we are right and put things forward with conviction.But yes we don’t have to get into pigs fight as pigs would enjoy and we would get dirty. Moreover,why to be a ass licker, when we have talent.So it’s our choice on how do we want to grow?
Just repeating few lines which I really like
“Tufano se aankh milao, sailabo pe waar karo
mallaho ka chakkar chodo tair ke dariya paar karo”
Cheers!!

Have not undergone the experience of switching companies , but I feel that there are challenges in your existing roles too if you are ready to take them head on.
I agree there are new kind of challenges in a new company you may join.
Thanks for dropping by here on my blog:)
@Shobit
Sad but true picture of current professional world.
Thanks bhai for your encouraging words.
@Ritu
Agree with you one should fight with our integrity intact and also try to avoid the pig fight.
Our talent has to speak on our behalf not asslicking. This is the perfect choice to grow in one’s career.
