USPS accepts club flyers and brochures for their Every Door Direct Mail (EDDM) programs

The Every Door Direct Mail program consist in an ultimate marketing tool that allow any business, individual or service provider to send out club flyers or brochures to an updated mailing list (provided by the USPS) within a targeted zone selected by the sender.

Tight Requirements by the USPS

Until now, many people thought that the USPS only accepted specific single paged without fold club flyer, but with the huge success of this program by the USPS, they have decided to extend the size and type of flyer acceptance policy for a wider range. We still remember in the beginning, they were so strict that even if the cutting of a 6x9flyer came out a 1/10 of an inch smaller, they could probably reject the whole pack.

Broader Acceptance with the Printed Club Flyers

Now a days, the story comes a little different, we now have a higher acceptance margin for mistakes and for different marketing approach. They now accept folded flyers, brochures, in different paper stock ranging from very light to thicker cartoon like flyers, opening the doors to a new and different kind of marketing and promotion.

Businesses like restaurants, pizza places, fast food and many other food related local businesses are the ones that are taking most advantage of this new feature offered by USPS, as their main promotion has always been, their MENU.

There are many types of menu, but in this particular article we are talking about brochure menu, used as a flyer in many cases, these are printed in soft magazine paper commonly in full color process where the merchant includes all type of food and beverage served at the place or for delivery, in addition to a traditional menu, in this one, they make sure to include full address and phone number big enough to the eye as possible.

These sort of folded flyer (brochures) were not accepted by the USPS in the beginning of the EDDM program for some easy to understand reasons. These flyers are not practical to accumulate, manipulate or keep in shape until delivery. But somehow they have managed to create a transit line where these fragile piece of marketing gets to the recipient in full shape for a fraction of a regular mailing price.

Still today, not all sizes of brochures are being accepted, but any size that after fold, becomes the size of the club flyer they would usually accept. For example, a brochure that when flat is 11x 25.5, will get rejected right away for mailing, but if you fold it 2 times until you get a 8.5x 11(standard letter size) then it will go through without a problem.
